I been reading what everyone said about the masquerade. I have to agree with Ichigo on this one. The workmanship judges did not pay much attention to the details of everyone's costume or they would have seen that some of the costumes were bought.... Probably from eBay.... There were alot of signs that they could have seen for example, there were 3 other ppl wearing the same exact costume at the con... I was expecting them to really want to examine my sewing. They didn't ask to examine the seams. They just asked generic questions like is that made using a pattern. I was there with my husband, I was Lady Sio and he was Jinno/Kuma from Afro Samurai. First things first, the entire oufit for me and him were homemade with zero patterns. His shoes were even homemade. As for the weapons again homemade, and his giant teddy bear head? Completely homemade, took about 2 months... They didn't really examine any of that:/ Secondly, the awards were really kinda sad:( I'm glad we won the certificates... but honestly, I agree that those Best in Weaponary (which we got.... although that wasn't the hardest part of the outfits at all>_<) were bleh..... I rather not win awards that are meaningless. And I do agree that ppl who have won mutiple awards or worn the same costume for numerous cons messes up the masquerade too. I think one way this could be solved is: ~One, have judges that sew alot of their own stuff, and know what homemade versus bought looks like. Obviously if someone is entering in Master class, it should look bought but not generic like the ones you can buy... Maybe give them a computer with internet so they can google the costume.. Never know.. you might see it on sale on eBay..lol ~Two, have the judges determine what class people should enter in after hearing and seeing their costumes. This will make the judging more fair. ~Three, don't give out crappy awards unless everyone's getting one to make everyone feel good... Or just give out awards that are meaningful. Overall, I think the judging was bit too light for people who really worked hard on their costumes. There were alot of entires I was sooooo happy to see, cuz you can always tell when ppl have taken alot of time to make their stuff. Congratz to all those that won, and my deepest apology to those who deserved to win and didn't. Hopefully next year, it will be different:D
Loved the con, loved the energy, loved all the hardworking people<3 Thanks all:)

I'm sorry that there were problems with the workmanship judging. I'm surprised, to be honest, because I know that the workmanship judges are both long-time costumers, especially Ramona (she wasn't in costume at the con because she was also running the dealers' room, but she's a master class costumer at Costume-Cons; she does some amazing work). I would hazard to guess that it was combination of them trying to get through everyone too quickly (I'm not sure, but possibly the green room crew was trying to get them to hurry???) and neither of them having looked at a lot of eBay costumes. I'm not too bad at figuring out if people made their own costumes because I know what to ask. Our judges come from the Costume-Con world of costuming where no one would dream of trying to pass off something they didn't make themselves as something they made. I figure they didn't ask about stitching or hemming because that's a given in their world. Maybe they should be better informed next year that there may be people who pass off eBay costumes as homemade.
As for judge's awards... they are actually rather ubiquitous. There are very few conventions that don't have them. The point of judge's awards is to point out the things the judges noticed on costumes that may not have gotten Best in Class or Best in Show. They're honorable mentions, not "stupid awards". The idea is that you had something very special that the judges saw, and they want to reward you for it. I'm sorry that some of you do not like them, but we will continue to do them because they serve a purpose that we want to keep.
We'll consider more workmanship judges in the future. We go with two because one is too few, and three seems like a too many opinions. But perhaps three in the future, so it's the same number as presentation.
I'm not sure what happened with the communication backstage. I wasn't on radio at the time because I was emceeing, but I figured Kelly and the stage ninjas, since they were at the tech rehearsals and knew that we were going to let the entrants go back to the audience, would tell the backstage people and the entrants themselves. I didn't realize that hadn't happened and apologize for it. I should have told them myself since I was emceeing, but I didn't notice anyone who looked confused about where to go. To be honest, that's the importance of attending a tech rehearsal. It was announced at the rehearsal to each person who was there that they could choose whether to return to the green room or go into the audience to watch the rest of the show. Tech rehearsals are there for you, so take advantage of them to test out the stage and practice once with getting on and off it. Obviously, unplanned things happen, such as my stepping on the power backstage, but it prevents MOST mess-ups.
We're still figuring out the tech for sending a signal upstairs. So far, none of our transmitters has been powerful enough. Eventually, we'll figure it out, but the wall are thick and many between the stage and green room.
I want to apologize again for stepping on the power. I wasn't making that up. I tripped over a box, and my foot ended up behind it, hitting the button on a power strip that ran the computer and the two big LED lamps above the stage. Ichigo, that's why your music didn't come on. The playlists I made up got deleted when the power went down. Axel and Zigbar, that's why your skit started early, because the cues that were loaded got reset. I apologize profusely to all of the skits that had problems because of me. I will be more careful where I walk in the future.
If we could afford it, we'd have a bigger place where we could store equipment out of the way. I hope we can do that in the future to prevent tripping.

Chances are its one of its kind that is made! that i know of at lest... as for the design it is from a LoZ manga, which i'm sure your weapionery was made from that anime. The thing is i do not are if it got an award!! it looks great in my eyes and i love it! ^_^. no i can't fight with it but if you look at my work most of it you can use!!

Yes i would have love to get more but i understand that its not what its about, its about loving your own work and showing it to others.

I want to chime in on this. Who is the heck buys a costume and enters it in a Masquerade? That is completely idiotic. As I have never made an entire costume I will not enter a Masquerade until I deem it worthy.
@ Katrina: I don't know if this will make you feel any better but I was told about you tripping the power and honestly, I laughed, I thought it was one of the funniest thing that happened during the con.

I'm not quite sure who Katrina was aiming at with the who rude comment but just to clear what I was saying in case she misunderstood my comments, I'm perfectly happy with ppl who are better than me an I would prefer to see ppl who are better than me. It gives me a goal to reach. My comment of the multiple award was just that perhaps gauging on how many awards you have won or how many costumes you have made isn't the best way to determine which class people should be in, instead the judges should put ppl in their class depending on the condition of their outfits.

Yes, which is why I thought it should have been judged by the condition of your costume at the con, the sword was very nicely done.

Then again, the judging should be based on the entire costume not just weapon, I didn't get to see your outfit up close but from what I could see, you spent alot of time.

As for your comment about how wonderful your sword was, we didn't say we deserved the weaponary award we were kinda upset that you didn't get it, but that's why I left feedback. The most time was spent on the kuma head and no I do not in any way feel that we should have gotten that award. That's why there needs to be fixes for judging.

It wasn't you, maomi. When I was typing it, I couldn't remember who had said it, but the person who did has answered now. I'm going to delete my comment because the person has cleared it up and deleted the comment that I referenced.
I did think it was quite weird to say that someone shouldn't be allowed to enter if he has made a lot of costumes.
