the hotel staff and security, were a little over zealous about the lobby situation, i couldn't even stop to check my wallet or the panel guide and i was getting told to leave the lobby, i was even told that if i was seen loitering in the lobby again i'd have my badge pulled.

I found that while the security was very uptight, some of the guards were understanding if you explained a situation. It was definitely true that they would get on your case if you loitered for any reason, but I don't entirely understand why that was a problem when there was clearly room to walk through even if someone was coming through with a cart or something. Also, any sitting down seemed to be limited to specific areas in the hotel, which also seemed to change depending on the day or time, because sometimes they would not say anything and sometimes they would kick you out of an area you previously thought was okay. The issue with this is that there are a lot of people at the con and the limited amount of seating in the building makes it difficult to find a place to rest if you are not at a panel. Some people will sit down in the few seats there are and just not move for hours, as well. I realize that this is not really something that can be immediately "fixed" but something that should probably be addressed in the future. But, coming back to a point I made early on, some of the guards were actually rather nice. On Sunday I wasn't feeling too well so I was sitting down for a little while in the balcony over registration. I'd barely done so when one of the security guys asked me to stand up again. After I explained the situation he was okay with it, but I think that's one of the problems... Sometimes people just need to sit down and it wasn't like there were a lot of places we were allowed to do it. However, most of the chairs and couches are in the lobby anyway and most of the times I sat down there, even just to look in my bag or answer a text or something, I was told to move shortly afterward. It also sort of got on my nerves that if a group ever stopped to talk in the lobby, even for just a minute or two to figure out where we were going or where we were splitting up to so we could find each other again it didn't even take that long for the con security to step in. I understand also that there was a wedding on Saturday and a reception on Sunday (I think, at least about the reception) and that probably made the whole situation even more difficult for everybody. However I can't say I ever heard anyone get threatened to have their badge taken for loitering. If there was one way to improve this situation that I can suggest, I think it needs to be better planned where is appropriate for "hanging out" and where it is not. There was no indication to the congoers at all and while I heard security explaining where was okay and where was not several times the indication was actually very vague every time. "Hallways" were okay, but the "lobby" was not doesn't make sense to me seeing as registration is in the lobby. I think that it needs to be better planned what areas are for the congoers and what areas are not and this should be made clear and specific. People can't follow the rules unless they know them, after all!

I hear you, I'm on staff myself and I got told to move like 500 times when I was standing by an elevator waiting for it or when I twisted my foot and my shoe broke apart and I sat on the stairs because all the seats were taken by people who had been sitting there for hours. When you explain WHY you're there and that you NEED to sit down for just a couple minutes they did allow you to stay.
I think security did a great job, but there loitering thing needs to be tweaked. I was being told to move away from a panel door that I was running... DX

From what I heard and was told, the hotel decided Friday that they didn't want congoers in the lobby. It has never been a problem with this hotel before, so the staff was unaware of the rule change until the last minute as well as the congoers. I personally didn't have any issues myself with being told I had to move and I thought security did a great job this year, but I apologize to anyone else who had a bad experience with them.

I'm just glad that the hotel didn't get as bad as Natsucon '09. >.< That was a bloody nightmare if I ever had one. O.O Sadly, I didn't get to experience too much of the actual floor (lol) but it wasn't so bad. ^^ Security was suppper nice and allowed me to stay in the lobby area until I was able to get back up on my feet again. ^^ They were also super wonderful when I lost my phone, wallet and when my friend left my shoes that they borrowed in the ballroom on Friday night. I really appreciated all of their help!

They still were annoying with the Rave. Security had to come down three separate times to ask us to turn it down. Given Eric the Sound Engineer's KILLER system, I think the space is just not soundproof enough for the wattage we put out. Plus, the ceiling was raining fine dust down on DJ Ziio's vinyl!
I still believe the management did not receive complaints but they just acted to have us turn it down on their own. I maybe wrong about that, but there are no rooms directly above us on the next floor with the full lobby between us and the next floor.
